Better Together

Your challenge is to create a tool, app, or resource that helps close a gap that causes people to experience inequality. This combination of humanity and technology should eliminate or lessen a systemic issue and educate the user so they can grow.

4see

Summary

In the world there is around 285 million people with visual impaired, and many of them has in their daily lives hindered in their activities, thus they need someone else to support them in some tasks. Thinking about these difficulties and limitations, we have developed an software that assists the deficient in a lot of tasks, just like walking, take a bus, shopping, and also travel, through an Artificial Intelligence that will communicate with the user, searching for meteorological, geological and people agglomeration information from NASA database, in order to increase their life quality and become more independent in their lives.

How We Addressed This Challenge

4see aims to develop a tool that increases the accessibility and mobility of the visually impaired. Through Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will communicate with users to pass information on the relief of cities, climate, agglomerations, cultural points and on public and private transport using NASA data. 4see aims to facilitate the daily life of the visually impaired, facilitating everyday tasks and increasing their independence in a practical and inclusive way.

How We Developed This Project

The choice for the Better Together challenge and the development of the 4see solution was due to the perception and empathy with the visually impaired, who in Facebook groups and at events point to the challenges they face in terms of mobility and inclusion in society and daily activities. We seek to integrate solutions and technologies offered and developed by the space agency to facilitate the daily lives of the visually impaired, promoting greater autonomy and independence. We talked to a person belonging to our target audience and he said that there are solutions focused on mobility, but that they are not designed to meet visually impaired people, which makes their use unfeasible.

So, we seek to solve this existing mobility and autonomy gap for the visually impaired through the

integration of existing technologies

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The data and technologies offered by NASA were used in the real-time location of the place where the user is, creating and predicting the best routes through gps, through it there is possibility of locating and describing the architecture and elements present in the places where it goes, such as warning if there is change of relief through integration with meteorological data offering data about the weather and suggesting that the user takes a certain item , e.g. coat, umbrella, water bottle and others. In addition, use of public transport location data (time and route), facilitating the performance of day-to-day activities.
