The Volunears
Summary
The VoluNears is dedicated towards the betterment of growing communities through the connection between businesses and valuable volunteers. We provide a seamless user-friendly experience, and we match non-profit organizations and businesses with readily available volunteers. We have maps to show the location of volunteering events relative to your current location, as well as a Volunteer Progress page that allows you to store all your volunteer hours in one place and set goals for yourself. The minimalist design is not only pleasing to the eye but also extremely simple to use. This app allows anyone to search for opportunities near them, so they would never miss it.
How We Addressed This Challenge
Our app aims to provide lower income residents with an option to find and join volunteering opportunities near them, all at the press of a button. We realize how hard and overwhelming it is to try and find good volunteer opportunities around you, so having an app that compresses all of these is extremely convenient. By having the signups right on the app, we eliminate the need for a computer to sign up for any event.
How We Developed This Project
We started going through CSA data and decided that volunteering rates have a large disparity. Being high school students ourselves, we realize the importance of having solid volunteer experience, especially when entering the workforce. We do not have a lot of coding experience so we decided to make this app on moqups.com, which allows us to make a prototype UI.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
We took a look at volunteer data in Canada, and found out that there is a big disparity between income groups and volunteering rates (CSA). We decided that addressing this problem is of the utmost importance in this day and age, especially considering how there is a lot of division between socioeconomic classes and racial identities.
