lunatutor provides a platform for students to ask science-related questions. Users are able to ask and answer questions anonymously and upvote answers they find the most helpful. This way, if a student needs extra help on a subject they are currently learning about, they are able to ask the community for help.
lunatutor is free and easy to use for students of all ages.
Everyone that participated in this project are students currently so we understand how difficult it can be to learn remotely. We chose coding languages and technologies that we were all familiar with to create a web application to make an attempt at solving this issue. This allowed for everyone involved to freely help out one another with different parts of the project. To develop the project, we used Flask, a lightweight Python framework, and PostgreSQL to interact with a relational database.
Our main problem was that this was our first time working with others since we have been learning independently up to this point. We celebrate the fact that we were able to work so well together and help one another with different tasks.
We used NASA's Learning, Racism & Inequality resources to continue learning about systemic issues and how different people experience inequality. This helped us to identify an issue happening now during the pandemic where students of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds are expected to accomplish the same work as other students while not having the same access to resources. Thus, leading us in the first step of Unity. We implemented the NASA Unity Campagin's mission statement of "Mission and Team above Self" to make an attempt at solving this issue.
