Better Together

Your challenge is to create a tool, app, or resource that helps close a gap that causes people to experience inequality. This combination of humanity and technology should eliminate or lessen a systemic issue and educate the user so they can grow.

Sahayata: Connecting People in Need

Summary

We made an app through which you can immediately connect to your nearest authorities, loved ones and the people near you with a press of few buttons. We attempted to fight social and natural calamities by bringing people together so that the good outweighs the evil.

How We Addressed This Challenge

As per given circumstances we hear the several incidents be it social or natural ones. Rape cases are regular today there are people starving in streets. However the silver lining of Covid was that it reflected the enthusiasm of society to help the ones.

We realized that these problems aren't individual but instead the whole social problem. So we made an app that would bring people together connect during emergencies. The app is equipped with three options where you can connect to your local authority, people nearby or just let your contacts know your whereabouts. So it can direct a call to your nearest authority or send an SOS to all the people in 10km radius or even send a message of ones whereabouts to loved ones. We believe that in emergency situation slightest beacon of hope might make a huge difference.

The app is important because you can fetch emergency in least amount of time and potentially make a huge impact in disaster management. With the app we are looking to make a meaningful impact to the society bringing people together to help somebody. We believe that we can reignite the goodness in the society and bring back the feeling of help among people.

How We Developed This Project

Truth be told we are a group of engineers who are haunted by the news that our society is filled of. Our newspaper today are filled with substances that were unimaginable to us, to that degree that makes us question the level of humanity we are surrounded with. However we have been brought up in a the society where everyone is eager to help. We simply wanted to bring back the spirit that we once witnessed.

On developing the app we chose a very noticeable and understandable design language assuming that the victim would be in a lot of trauma. We broke down the work into three parts someone handling the UI, other the logic and other the networking aspect. We used an agile form of development process because of time constraint we rapidly had to prototype. We used dart programming language and built the app over Flutter framework. The backend of the project is hosted in firebase.

The hardest problem was the time limit. We had to build up very quickly and plan accordingly. Any error would be costing a heavy penalty of time. However we had lots of fun hacking up the solution patching up the broken codes. At the end of the day we are proud of what we have made and believe that it can be truly impactful.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used the fire dataset to detect fire in the surrounding and then accordingly would send responses. Because of it we could create an effective detection and hopefully could integrate it properly to our system.
