Better Together

Your challenge is to create a tool, app, or resource that helps close a gap that causes people to experience inequality. This combination of humanity and technology should eliminate or lessen a systemic issue and educate the user so they can grow.

Pioneers women in the conquest of space

Summary

This project aims to contribute to closing gender gaps by making visible the role of women in the space and recognizing conquest and their roles in projects and missions in different countries. According to the American Association of University Women, only 28% of workers in science and technology in the US are women. We firmly believe that the visibility of pioneering women can inspire scientific vocations in girls and women around the world and contribute to empower women researchers in STEM. Therefore, we consider our project as an awareness educational resource for public use around the world, and a scalable product that can be included in educational processes.

How We Addressed This Challenge

With the use of visual and graphic tools, the project shows the information and references stories of the most important female figures who participated and participated in the challenge of space exploration.

The effective empowerment of populations or minorities is not possible without the existence of referents and the recognition of the pioneers in their area. Closing gaps is also achieved by visualizing the diversity and merits of each one.

How We Developed This Project

Open source tools were used to present information interactively, and a timeline was created in order to synthesize the data collected.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The data provided by the space agency was used as the main repository for consultation of the historical information of the space projects, this information is not used as another piece of data but rather they are the key milestones of space exploration
