We developed a website that educates youth on the current systemic issues in our world and inspires them to make real change. Our website includes multiple animated videos of different people. We chose to make it animated so that our target audience which is kids won't be bored. Our website is important because the youth is our future. It is crucial that at a young age kids learn how to take care of our environment and that discrimination is bad. We hope to achieve more compassion within youth, socially and environmentally.
We have been inspired by the current political and environmental issues going on. We know that if youth are not educated on these matters we will be trapped in a vicious cycle of discrimination and jeopardizing future life on Earth. Our approach was to make an interactive website with minimal text so that kids don’t get bored. We wanted to have a fun element (ex. game) as well, with a hidden meaning behind. We used Google Sites as the backbone of our website as it was user friendly and compatible with our vision. We also used Apple Memoji for the videos about the NASA astronauts and staff as well as the environmental changemakers. We also created a game using Scratch as it had a lot of the features that we wanted. Our original idea was to include an interactive map with pins in the places of origin however we had a hard time finding resources/source code to adapt or utilize or adding the pins and videos. Nothing was compatible with our vision or Google Sites, so we had to scrap the project entirely. Google Sites had a lot of features to give our website a nice design/aesthetic, it allowed us to have an end result that we were proud of.
NASA data was basically the backbone of our NASA POC section since without the info provided by these sites we wouldn’t be able to create the scripts/ research the astronauts for the Memoji videos we created. So it was critical for our research. We have also included many links from Resources for Learning and Talking about Racism & Inequality in the "Want to Help section", so users can further explore the resources provided by them for NASA.
