Summary
Smarter Car is a smartphone app that can instantly turn any car into a connected car providing all people with safety features that are only available nowadays to a small number of people who can afford an expensive car with safety features like accident detection and emergency notification. Smarter Car can detect and avoid traffic accidents using just the sensors in the driver's smartphone with no additional hardware needed.
How We Addressed This Challenge
Safety is a right for everyone, these days only expensive cars has a good level of safety when it comes to notifying the emergency response about an accident that happened, a feature that is available in connected cars only. Smarter Car can turn any car instantly into a connected car by utilizing only the sensors in the driver's smartphone with no additional hardware needed. If the driver ran into an accident the app automatically send a notification to the nearest emergency response unit with the exact location of the accident and the medical file of the driver, in the same time it notifies the driver's emergency contact and also notifies the traffic department to make sure the road is clear for the ambulance to and from the accident location. What we hope is to reach Zero death on the road and provide road safety for everyone globally. Smarter Car also has other features like avoiding accidents by notifying drivers if they are on a collision course, and also it can detect potholes and send a notification to the road maintenance to fix it plus notifying other drivers to take care.
How We Developed This Project
The project was made to reduce the number of traffic accidents that happen each year, more than 1 Million people die from traffic accidents due to lack of safety measures. Technology can change that and it can provide features that are only available for a limited number of people, to everyone in the world. Smarter Car is a smartphone app that utilizes the sensors in the smartphone of the driver like GPS, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope. It was developed using Flutter from Google.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project
GPS and Galileo were integrated inside the app to measure the speed of the moving vehicle or to detect a sudden stop. Galileo proves more accurate when applicable as not many phones have it, however GPS also was enough to detect the accident. With the introduction of 5G the accuracy will increase more.
