Better Together

Your challenge is to create a tool, app, or resource that helps close a gap that causes people to experience inequality. This combination of humanity and technology should eliminate or lessen a systemic issue and educate the user so they can grow.

StartJobs

Summary

Abstract: The purpose of this work is to reduce the employment gap caused by discrimination by using an app that does not allow employers to obtain personal information about candidates, if not, only curricular information.Labor discrimination is the opposite of fair and equitable treatment at work, which is essential in order to achieve a good coexistence that allows everyone to consider work as a place where it is not torture to attend, but it is also essential to absence of these discriminations to achieve maximum worker productivity.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Introduction:

Employment discrimination continues to be a problem that affects many workers in the world. Employment discrimination is understood to be the difference in treatment of an employee with respect to his co-workers, due to reasons that are not related to his work performance, but to his social, economic, religious, race, personality, culture, etc…

In any of the cases, those affected suffer grievances such as lower wages, abusive hours, personal attacks, fewer options for professional promotion or disparagements and exclusions by their colleagues and/or bosses.

Our idea is to eradicate these practices from companies and society in general through the use of an app.

Objectives:

-         Reduce employment discrimination through an app.

-         Creation of a fairer job search system.

-         Reduce inequality to generate job opportunities.

-         Facilitate job search.

Problems:

Many companies maintain labor practices that contribute to inequality, either maintaining gender pay gaps, disregarding ethnic or ideological minorities.

Discrimination within the employment relationship can result in multiple behaviors, not only related to access to employment, but also to all aspects related to the provision of labor services, having a wide or extensive field of application, which includes situations such as working conditions, vocational training and education, equal pay for work of equal value, job security, etc.

Challenge:

Our challenge is to combat both direct employment discrimination (when a worker obtains, in a clear and visible way, a worse job treatment than another in the same situation, for the mere fact of belonging to another gender, age, race, ethnicity or ideology.) as indirectly (consists of an apparently neutral employment situation but which, in reality, hides discriminatory practices.)

Solution:

Our project consists of the use of an app to search for work

App description:

Free mobile job search and offer app, simple to use, not oriented towards any sector, but rather containing offers of all kinds of jobs.

There are filters that allow you to choose between location, employment category and by keywords, from the search engine it directly gives you the number of offers for those keywords. In addition, you can use many filters to choose the ones that best suit your profile.

Functioning:

 For the unemployed:

·        StartJobs will use the real information of the person to verify their identity and avoid fake profiles.

·        The unemployed will complete a form with their personal information and their curricular information.

·        StartJobs generates a unique number to users.

·        All your work experience would be shown in the application, but personal data such as gender, age, photo would not be seen.

For the companies:

·        The company will search for an unemployed person in the StartJobs application.

·        The company will only see the candidate's employment information, they will not be able to see their photo, age, gender, etc...

·        The company could test the candidates within 20 days.

·        Users, both supply and demand, may be scored in the application that will serve as a reference.

·        A bonus system would be sought for the employer for the use of the application through international organizations (World Bank International, Labor Organization or government), such as low-interest loans to improve their business or company.

Through this system, companies would be encouraged to use the application.

The idea is that since the employer cannot obtain the candidate's personal information, they cannot discriminate of any kind, since they only have access to their professional profile. This creates equal opportunities for any candidate, regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, or beliefs.

How We Developed This Project

We believe that StartJob is the first step against racism and discrimination in the workplace, and we believe people should be put to the test for their knowledge and development more than just for their race, age or gender.
