Why is it important?
Racism is a poison that have infiltered our nation since long ago, it discriminates against people based on their ethnicity, skin color, gender and religion following the false belief that those with differences are inferior to others. Thus, creating a roadblock to most in their professional and personal life: they are less likely to be selected for jobs, leading to difficult access to health care and a lower standard of living.
Lately the problem has become more severe and drastic as racism in The United States become more apparent and transparent to include violence and cases of murder beginning by the killing of George Floyd that triggered a series of protests leading to police brutality. Furthermore, a different skin color is not the only reason behind this discrimination as for many years some minorities have suffered from the religious stigma.
Data has found that some of the problem resides in the lack of understanding of the true nature of racism as many don’t realize that they are being racist and offending the other and this is where the app intervenes as it points out the user’s traits that could be perceived as discriminatory and working to change this by direct communication between users of opposing views.
How does it work?
1.Create your account:
2.We get to know you:
3.Use the app:
What do we hope to achieve?
The main purpose of WE F4C is to promote equal rights and lifestyle for all, and fight discrimination of groups based on race, religion and ethnicity. By encouraging chats between users with opposing views, we are working to ensure the achievement of the app’s goals which is the elimination of racial illiteracy and accepting each other differences and realizing that we are all equal and each person is unique and responsible for humanity’s diversity.
Our Approach:
Our key approach to the App was encouraging discussion and interaction and bringing people with different backgrounds together.
By making users feel involved, they will be willing to partake and converse with others hopefully changing their views and making the world a better place little by little. We aspired to make a change in today’s communities and show that regardless of our differences: ethnicities, gender and religion we are all the same and deserve similar treatment.
How We Developed This Project:
Our team wanted an easy access app that will ease the user into discussion without feeling pressured. WE F4C is a safe mobile app that can be used anonymously without divulging the user’s personal information if they didn’t wish to. It analyzes participants by their answers on the quiz and collects their traits and responses to certain situations that will be safely saved so that the data collected could be used for research purposes. It aims to helps users understand how their behavior can be perceived sometimes and works to alter certain user’s views with discussion and logic. The app prototype was created using Adobe XD which is a tool for designing web and mobile app prototypes to make it easier in the development process for developers to only focus on the functional side of the application. When creating the prototype, we thought of the blue color on the NASA logo and because the blue color is related to depth and stability: it symbolizes trust, loyalty, faith and truth which is also related to our app subject that has been mentioned earlier.
WE F4C aims to help alter views with logic and helpful conversation so it was very important for the user to view articles and videos regarding the problem of race discrimination as it will ease them slowly and subtly into debates about it. These articles and videos were taken from NASA resources and categorized using the user’s answers into religion, race and descent. As because of the severity of the stigma against different races and religions, people from the space industry has become now more than ever determined to speak out against racism.
