A Flood of Ideas

Your challenge is to develop a new methodology or algorithm that leverages Earth observation and critical infrastructure datasets to estimate damages to infrastructure caused by flooding. Make a measurable impact on the resilience of nations by helping the Earth observations community contribute to the United Nations’ primary effort to reduce disaster risk!

A Flood of Ideas

Summary

We have been brainstorming ideas to capture on how much damage a flood actually does to buildings and vegetation and how we can prevent buildings and trees from falling down and possibly injuring or even killing people and animals. Also, we have been brainstorming about how satellites can capture images/videos of the devastation to be able to see the nature of the flood so next time we can create something to prevent it from coming or minimize its effect.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project addresses this challenge by using CSA RADARSAT data to identify the most affected flood areas in the country and create a communication method to inform the public and also to provide accurate information to specific organizations in charge.

How We Developed This Project

We developed our project by first studying the problem that affects many communities and then brainstorming what we can do to prevent floods from destroying buildings and nature.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used CSA open data from the RADAR SAT constellation Mission collection.
