Save the Savannah | A Flood of Ideas

A Flood of Ideas

Your challenge is to develop a new methodology or algorithm that leverages Earth observation and critical infrastructure datasets to estimate damages to infrastructure caused by flooding. Make a measurable impact on the resilience of nations by helping the Earth observations community contribute to the United Nations’ primary effort to reduce disaster risk!

A MATHEMATICAL ALGORITHM TO LEVERAGE EARTH OBSERVATION DATASET IN ESTIMATING THE IMPACT OF FLOOD DIS

Summary

Our algorithm was developed following a deep study of global flood monitoring system datasets to interpret Earth observation datasets of global flood disasters with the sole aim of providing an estimate for critical infrastructural damage

How I Addressed This Challenge

We developed a mathematical algorithm which can be used to estimate critical infrastructural damage numerically. It is important because it can be grasped by even a high school math teacher. It is a simple approach.

The algorithm relies on 'pre-flood and in-flood (during the flood) data to estimate critical infrastructural damage.

How I Developed This Project

We believed we would come up with a solution to this challenge. We approached the problem mathematically. The soft material we used was the resources provided, aside that we didn't use any software to develop our solution.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used global flood monitoring system dataset.

Data & Resources

We used global flood monitoring system dataset provided in the resources.
