Recent wildfires worldwide have demonstrated the importance of rapid wildfire detection, mitigation, and community impact assessment analysis. Your challenge is to develop and/or augment an existing application to detect, predict, and assess the economic impacts from actual or potential wildfires by leveraging high-frequency data from a new generation of geostationary satellites, data from polar-orbiting environmental satellites, and other open-source datasets.

FireBox

Summary

Cases of wildfire has been increasing globally in recent times which has caused loss of wildlife, human, and financial and environmental loss. We at 212 Degree Fahrenheit are exploring a potential solution for this global issue. We would like to introduce FireBox. FireBox measures the 7 prime factors that lead to a wildfire. After collecting the 7 factors, it sends the data to relevant authorities and wildfire analysts to further examine the data. After which the firebox analyses and predicts whether a wildfire is going to happen in that area. A camera which is inter-connected to the fire authorities and wildfire analysts for confirmation if a wildfire is in that area as a wrong prediction.

How We Addressed This Challenge

I believe our project can and will make an impact as it can detect a wildfire and we could save vital minutes and hours which can potentially save millions of wild and human lives as well as billions of dollars in economy of the country.

How We Developed This Project

We choose this challenge as it affects millions of lives and billions of dollars in the industry and would like to save lives and reduce the loss. We faced quite a bit of challenges such as the criteria- a limit of 7 slides, shortage of time. But we stayed resilient in this time and we made this come true.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We wanted to change the way NASA is trying to detect wildfires and bring in our concept of the FireBox. NASA is currently using satellites whereas we are using factors and determiners. Hence, we tried to thin different and go for a different approach.
