Spot That Fire V3.0

Recent wildfires worldwide have demonstrated the importance of rapid wildfire detection, mitigation, and community impact assessment analysis. Your challenge is to develop and/or augment an existing application to detect, predict, and assess the economic impacts from actual or potential wildfires by leveraging high-frequency data from a new generation of geostationary satellites, data from polar-orbiting environmental satellites, and other open-source datasets.

Árēs Project

Summary

The Árēs Project aims to prevent possible fire spreading and stabilizing conflagration areas using a glider that gathers data from satellites all over the world.

How We Addressed This Challenge

In this project, we decided to build a simple, yet efficient, glider that prevents fire spreading. It is important to stress how much people get affected by fires everywhere in the world and how much people like us can do about it. This device gathers data from satellites all over the world, stores the pictures he takes with a built-in camera, provides info and a full analysis of what substances he encountered during his flight, the exact coordinates and, if applicable, calls the nearest firefighters in the area for an emergency fire conflagration. The team wants to prevent any possible damages made by fires and build a confortable environment for everyone who is afraid of how dangerous fires can be.

How We Developed This Project

Our team wanted to change the little bits of the world we live in. Bit by bit we can turn our current situation around and start retrieving the life and such glory our planet once had. The interest in changing and making a better and livable world made this project entirely possible with just the simple tools we could find online. With the help of an CAD builder online, a free digital painting program and our ideas combined into paper, we could make this whole project come true. There were major problems we had to encounter during the making of it, such as the correct aerodynamics, prices, materials, possible coding, engineering, etc. But in the end, everything worked as planned, and even better than expected.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used mostly what NASA disponibilized about satellite data being used for spotting wildfires. With those informations, the project had a major reference for data gathering and was only possible because of NASA's Disaster program.
