Farenheit Legends 2.0| Spot That Fire V3.0

Spot That Fire V3.0

Recent wildfires worldwide have demonstrated the importance of rapid wildfire detection, mitigation, and community impact assessment analysis. Your challenge is to develop and/or augment an existing application to detect, predict, and assess the economic impacts from actual or potential wildfires by leveraging high-frequency data from a new generation of geostationary satellites, data from polar-orbiting environmental satellites, and other open-source datasets.

Fire No More!

Summary

Prevent or stop the spread of forest fires by using a human-AI combo, in order to prevent fires from ever happening again with the use of a satellite system, an app, and a sophisticated AI>

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed a system using, AI, satellites, and an app. We think that this combo is important since it relies on both AI and human interaction (mostly AI), in order to prevent the fires and detect them. It works by having satellites scanning the area for temperature and CO emissions changes in the environment and once passing a certain value it reports the authorities and the local citizens. We hope that we the app people are incentivised to help clean the forest from debris that could start a fire.

How We Developed This Project

Our team was inspired to this challenge by the ongoing fires that are going in the United States, thinking to ourselves that all of it could be prevented with an efficient fire detecting /prevention system. Since we are not the most tech savy guys, we have little to no experience with coding so we used our creativity and made a visual representation of the FIRE NO MORE! App. With the help of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. One of our members, Carlos de Urriola, learned a bit of code and was able to write a small algorythm with the little time we had. The problem we had is that non of us knew nothing about graphic design or code, but we managed to learn through Youtube how to do those tasks and completed them.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We read information from NASA's resources, to inspire ourselves to come up with our own solution to this problem.

Data & Resources

We used almost the entire resources library to inspire ourselves to do this. Especially from FIRMS and MOPITT, and we used MIT's App Inventor to make a "functional" version of the app.
