Spot That Fire V3.0

Recent wildfires worldwide have demonstrated the importance of rapid wildfire detection, mitigation, and community impact assessment analysis. Your challenge is to develop and/or augment an existing application to detect, predict, and assess the economic impacts from actual or potential wildfires by leveraging high-frequency data from a new generation of geostationary satellites, data from polar-orbiting environmental satellites, and other open-source datasets.

Spot that fire

Summary

The project is a merge between hardware sensors that detect parameters related to fire (remote sensors that measure smoke and flame presence powered by solar panel) and send the information to the cloud. Our platform translates values to important information for authorities and citizens of the affected area (exact location of the fire).

How We Addressed This Challenge

We develop the hardware part and the platform where everyone can Spot the Fire . We create from electronics a sensors that detect smoke, humidity, temperature and flame presence and send this information to cloud by 2 ways ( wi-fi if is available or GPRS ). The importance of the project is that we provide remote sensors that can be placed in the forest, in the back yard or near your holyday house and know in real time if is any smoke in the area. With this project we hope to minimize the loses of lives and properties, because using our sensors authorities will act as soon as possible to stop the fire.

How We Developed This Project

Our team has experience in air quality and we notice that smoke has his range in our measurements of particulate matters (over 150 ug/m3 and 500 ug/m3). We believe using air quality sensors we can spot also fire near residence but also remote in the forest.

Software tools used: NodeJS, ReactJS, Heroku, Leaflet / Google maps, Visual Studio Code,Arduino .

Hardware tools : NodeMCU module, GSM 800l module, BME280 for pressure , temperature and humidity and SDS011 from NovaFitness for detecting Smoke. 2w Solar panel , 18650 battery and TP4056 solar charger, Step-up 5v .

On the hardware part we face some problem connecting more devices on the same serial interface.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We are using info regarding wheatear condition ( wind and precipitation ) from G-Portal

JAXA satellite database , for estimating direction of movement for fire hazard.
