Spot That Fire V3.0

Recent wildfires worldwide have demonstrated the importance of rapid wildfire detection, mitigation, and community impact assessment analysis. Your challenge is to develop and/or augment an existing application to detect, predict, and assess the economic impacts from actual or potential wildfires by leveraging high-frequency data from a new generation of geostationary satellites, data from polar-orbiting environmental satellites, and other open-source datasets.

Smart Fire Manager

Summary

The aim of this project is to come up with smart ideas to avoid/address Fire. It involves development of intelligent computer system using AI, Analytics of Satellite data, Community data, GPS, Environment data (to predict/detect, manage and alert) , development of a mobile app and physical set up. It also brings in thought provoking the vedic style of making rain

How We Addressed This Challenge

Proactive measures:

  1. Develop long water bodies and collect water during rainy season in the areas that are prone to fire. They act as natural fire barriers as well. In the forest areas, have solar powered water pumps with heat sensors that can be operated remotely using mobile technology. In cities the waterways could be made along the road ways (or below road ways where there is space issue)
  2. Where water bodies not possible, Have drones with Solar charging stations that can deploy Fire extinguisher remotely with mobile technology
  3. Develop a mobile app ‘DangerNearMe’ to push notifications to people
  4. Develop an intelligent computer system ‘Smart Fire Manager’ using Artificial Intelligence that can predict/detect Fire situation and location based on Satellite data/Community data/GPS/Environment data Analytics, Weather condition
  5. Explore the science behind vedic ritual ‘Athirathram’ from Kerala, India that never fails to bring rain. Simulate/Test The material used, the frequency of the sound waves etc in a lab

Reactive Steps:

(1) When the ‘Smart Fire manager’ detects a fire situation, immediately

  • Send Push notification over ‘ DangerNearMe’ mobile app alerting people near the fire location and relevant stake holders about fire
  • Auto start water pumps and water sprayer in the direction sensed by the heat sensors
  • Remotely deploy the drones with fire extinguisher using mobile technology.

(2) Artifical rain spraying oppositely charged colloidal dust or sand particles over a cloud from an aeroplane

(3) Do ‘Athirathram’ process/materials and fire/sound waves/frequency to bring rain

How We Developed This Project

The destruction and loss of lives caused by repeated California Wild fires and Notre Dame de Paris fire, inspired our team to choose this challenge.

The innovative ideas can change/save the world. Human brain is the best tool to nurture such ideas that can spark ‘big fires’ for the world. Our team’s approach was brain storming to find a solution for the fire disasters. IBM Watson, Cloudant, GPS, mobile technology etc could be used for the project development.

The main challenge faced was developing a solution in 2 ‘hackathon days’. As the solution requires infrastructure set up, many person months of effort to develop the solution; implementation yet to be done

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Project Demo

Due to the very nature of the solution, it is not feasible to develop and demo in 2 days
