Can You Hear Me Now?

Human missions to Mars are moving from the realm of science fiction to science fact. Your challenge is to design an interactive application to explore the challenge of communicating with astronauts on Mars from Earth.

Can you hear me?

Summary

Our team worked together to find out possible challenges that an astronaut could face during communication. We looked at photos provided by Mars overview, data provided by Mars Exploration program and examine Mars insights missions well. Then through our team virtual meeting we worked on it to find challenges as well as solution that an astronaut could face in communication with astronaut. We also take the help of many websites to complete our project and finally gain our final goal.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Firstly, we looked upon the data provided by NASA's Earth exploration program, learned about the deep space network and observed the photograph provided by mars overview and made a simple demo video that will address the challenge that an astronaut could face during communication( especially in mars mission). Our project has its first foundation's in the investigation of deep space optical communication carried out by jet propulsion laboratory in Pasandena. This research give us another insight for use faster data communication, boost connectivity speed and so on. By the help of this technology concept we will be going to solve major challenge of bandwidth.

How We Developed This Project

Advancement in communication is necessary for faster research. A lots of mars mission are going on, rovers are being sent on mars, and now humans are preparing to send astronauts on mars. For it, the basic thing that every astronaut need is continuous communication but a lot of obstacle may arise during communication. That inspired me to choose project. We need to learn more about the challenges in communication during mars mission. So the solgan of our team is " Easier the communication, faster the research". We have many approaches while developing this project. We have made demo video, interactive videos to highlight the challenges and to solve them. For it we have used many editing software, tools provided by NASA's and python programming language

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Literally, space agency data helped a lot in our project. We use data provided by JAXA to extract ultra high definition images of mars. We use image provided by NASA to make interactive videos for my projects. The data provided by deep space optical communication helped us to solve one major challenges of limitation of bandwidth while sending millions of miles. We use the data provided by NASA's mars exploration program to form possible ideas that could solve communication problems.

Project Demo

There were a lot challenges for us. Firstly we highlited all possible challenges that an astronaut could face in mars mission in 30 sec video and try to explain something deep using picture which link will be given below.

1. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages of using site- site communication. Site to site communication work perfectly if there is no obstacle between sender and receiver. But if there is obastacle as big as sun then it will surely fail. There will be the time during mars mission where sun is exactly between earth and mars. And at that time a lot of problem can arise while communicating astronaut with earth. A voice make take more than 20 min to reach earth. And many other problem will arise.

To solve this problem we need a new object that will gain the information from mars to and then pass to earth. This object can be satellite. But If satellite revolve around either mars or earth then still there will be the conditon where data can delay( ie when all are in same direction) So satellite I am talking should be stationary as shown in figure below

Here I consider those satellite space debris because satellite need maintainence after certain time but maintaince will be costly. So if internal function of satellite (sender and reciver) work then we can still gain the information from astronaut at mars.

2. While communicating over long distance bandwidth will be very limited. Due to data trasmission rate will be limited

. So to solve this problem we need deep space optical communication. It literally sloved the probelm of bandwidth since huge amount of data can be transmitted at faster rate by using deep space optical communication
