Can You Hear Me Now?

Human missions to Mars are moving from the realm of science fiction to science fact. Your challenge is to design an interactive application to explore the challenge of communicating with astronauts on Mars from Earth.

Internet on Mars

Summary

Initially, a visualization app to help people understand how we might set up an internet network between mars and earth. However we want to turn it into a full-fledged simulation to help design and optimize such a network.

How We Addressed This Challenge

It provides the user with a clean visualization of how the connection between Mars and Earth is affected by adding satellites at the communication Legrange points in Earth's orbit.

How We Developed This Project

We're a group of web developers, so of course we're interested in the internet and expanding it. We also love teaching and visualizing data, and we saw an opportunity to combine these things.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used the planetary datasheets they provide to create the Legrange point orbiters. Example: https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/earthfact.html
