Can You Hear Me Now?

Human missions to Mars are moving from the realm of science fiction to science fact. Your challenge is to design an interactive application to explore the challenge of communicating with astronauts on Mars from Earth.

Orbicom | Space to Space Communication

Summary

Our project is a P2P network called Space To Space integrated with a mobile or web messaging app where all available nearby devices are used to improve and increse the signal of the message sender, this way it will facilitate the sending of these messages even in case of technical or structural difficulties in the region.Connected to DNS (Deep Space Network) the S2S (Space to Space) will use all the available infrastructure of networks and satellites that will serve as stations of reception and transmission of messages so that the data reach efficiently and safely increasingly distant destinations.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project is a communication network based on the peer-to-peer architecture, where each device connected to the network is a receiver and transmitter of information, eliminating technical or local infrastructure difficulties, as long as there is a device connected to the network within a radius of the origin of the information.

When operating, the system will be able to supply the demand for information traffic with reliability and low cost, since the decentralized transmission route of the information passed has been made.

With this network, we are looking for a low cost and easy implementation alternative to facilitate planetary and interplanetary communication.

How We Developed This Project

What inspired your team to choose this challenge?

Communication is one of world main challenges - trillion of dollars is wasted and some accidents and live lose that have unpaired measurement because of fail in communication.

Also there are a lot of people in the world (deaf/ disability, vulnerability people) that is exclude because of no access of communication.

So the Mission success is a warranty of good communication.

What was your approach to developing this project?

Orbicom is doing a new way to communicate, by using Peer to Peer (P2P) architecture and developing an ecosystem based on nodes to amplify how fae we can delivery an message.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

With the Space-to-Space network integrated with the DSN (Deep Space Network) system and NASA Eyes plus any satellite, probe or space station, we will be able to transmit information even over long distances from space through a system of mobile or static reception and transmission points

One of the main features of our network is working with the NASA EYES. This is due to the initial configuration of the S2S MVP proposal. This proposal is based on the notion that in order to get far, it is necessary to take the first step. This first step is to establish a network that works as an alternative to the direct communication currently used as the only standard by NASA. By being subsidized by the "EYES OF NASA" resource, and its scanning routines of the Earth's face, The S2S network locates the nodes that integrate its network, to form the connections between them.

Project Demo

This model serves as a demonstrative basis for how the Space-To-Space network works, where a device transmits information to the network, this information spreads through nodes that are other devices connected within an web, which in turn instead relay this information to the next node that is closest geographically or with the best signal strength until it reaches the final recipient.
