SpaceText is an App for sending text messages over the Internet of Space.
Whether you live in a colony on Mars, a research center on the Moon, a centrifugal habitat orbiting around Jupiter, or you still live on good old planet Earth, SpaceText will find the fastest route for your text message to reach its destination.
First you will need a SpaceText account. Visit SpaceText.net and click the "create account" buttton. Choose an alias and a SpaceText provider that's closest to your planet or habitat. Your contact will be in the form of alias@provider.planet e.g. julie@rednet.mars Share that contact with friends, family or business partners to keep in touch on SpaceText.
Write a message and send it to a friend. A progress bar will show you the status of your text message transmission. Sending text messages to far away destinations will take a longer time due to speed-of-light limitations. SpaceText is aware at all times of the positions of planets in the Solar System, the delays caused by speed-of-light constraints and will offer you the most precise and up to date time estimations so that you know exactly when your message will reach the destination and plan ahead for any situation.
If your message fails to reach the destination, it can be for a number of reasons like weather conditions, technical faults in the communication satellites, routing errors, obstacles, connection timeouts. SpaceText will notify you as soon as possible and provide you with the best explanation possible of where and why something went wrong. You will also have the option to resend your message.
Sometimes your destination can be blocked by the Sun or eclipsed by some other object. SpaceText will notify you about this and your message will be stored on a SpaceText server until transmission is possible. You will also be notified when the destination is in reach and transmission has begun. If it's possible to relay the message via a relay satellite SpaceText will use such a route. It is expected that the number of SpaceText relay satellites will grow over time as more of them are launched to orbit around the sun. SpaceText will always be up to date with the position of all relay satellites in order to provide the best connection possible.
