We develop an application that can be significantly useful for society in general, to understand and predict the effects of variations in geomagnetic activity in different social contexts, both on Earth and outside where humans may be exposed to similar magnetic fields. or scalable to planet Earth.
Our project seeks to take the information from different sources available on geomagnetic activity and make it available to users in an understandable and updated way at the time, so that each person can make a return of what they perceive in themselves both emotionally. , health, or their surroundings at a social or device level, for example, conditions with a Kp 4 or higher index. The information provided by each user may be used to understand what are the effects of geomagnetic activity in the different environments where information is provided, which will be used to develop predictive patterns and that the same users can take advantage of the bidirectional information to apply it in the development of an improvement in their way of life and better understand the factors that are influenced by variations in geomagnetic activity and take the necessary precautions for each case or possible situations.
We hope to achieve the development of a tool that makes it possible to make geophysical data of the Earth available to society, particularly geomagnetic activity, so that it contributes to a better approach to both personal and community social processes, which can be better approached with understanding of response patterns to geomagnetic variations. In the near future with the repercussion of the information generated and analyzed by this GeomagApp, it is expected that its results will be as consulted as the weather forecast.
The inspiration was linked to the knowledge that there are geophysical factors that affect human activity. The effects that geomagnetic storms produce on electrical and communication facilities (eg Carrington Event, Halloween Event, etc.) are well known and although there is already basic scientific information on how these variations affect people physiologically and psychologically, it is necessary to analyze more casuistry based on the feedback information of the users to understand how the behavior patterns are and in this way that allows the development of the forecasting capacity of the tool.
Our approach is based mainly on making information on geomagnetic activity available to users in a friendly format, with the development of alerts against extremes of activity, so that users can, in turn, make returns of their experiences during different conditions. both maximum or minimum activity
Data from the user will be obtained from surveys in google forms and in a web or mobile application. The surveys will ask for a variety of information on the location, mood, and health of individuals.
The acquired data will allow an exploratory analysis through graphs, correlations and descriptive statistics to better understand what story the data is telling us.
Finally, the data from the different sources will be prepared and combined to make use of algorithms and machine learning techniques to make possible predictions.
The relationship between the value of the Kp index and the general mood of the people is shown, it will indicate statistics on people affected positively and negatively, among others. The results will be presented in a way that is meaningful to the user, and that is easy to interpret through graphics, simple texts and notifications.
One of the main problems faced was the development of surveys and the input of basic health information from users. In this way, we can better understand the behavior patterns related to geomagnetic activity and physiological health variables, which mean that some experiences are linked in some cases with particular characteristics of the users and in this way be able to differentiate trends in general behavior, from some particular tendencies related to singularities in casuistry.
The main achievements are linked to the development of an app with a friendly interface, which allows access to users of the community in general to information that in its original state is not easy to understand. Also the possibility that users can return their psychological and physiological states and their surroundings, before the different notices of geomagnetic activities and in turn can be benefited with access to the statistical results of the information released. Being one of the most important achievements of the feedback of the App and users, the ability to generate predictions of the analyzed and reported trends, in the face of future geomagnetic conditions, whose behavior patterns can be both useful on Earth and in space travel where the astronauts are exposed to Earth-scalable planetary magnetic conditions.
Project Implementation:
User Side: clients will be Mobile/Web applications developed in React and React Native by implementing an user friendly UI/UX Experience. Targeted mobile platforms: iOS/Android.
Server Side: will be developed with Java and Spring Framework. AWS will be used for Push Notifications, ML Kit for data processing, S3 for Data Storage and EC2 for Virtual Server Machines. REST API will be used to send/receive the clients’ data, alerts, recommendations and insights, as well as to connect the server with the NASA and related agencies that provides the measures of interest.
