Data Discovery for Earth Science

Websites like the NASA Earth Observatory showcase the many uses of satellite data to highlight interesting natural events. International partner instruments on NASA satellites such as Japan’s ASTER instrument and Canada’s MOPITT instrument, both onboard the Terra satellite, are also included as part of the Observatory. This challenge will ask you to devise a tool or technique to guide users to relevant datasets to study specific events.

FOCUS: An All-Around Earthquake Informer

Summary

WHAT DID WE DO?We, the JUANDERERS of SOX came up with Focus, an application that surrounds all-around information of Earthquakes around SOCCSKSARGEN and Davao. From quantitative to qualitative data, Focus will serve as a medium to educate, to assess, and to gather information for better and efficient data gathering. The scope of this application includes: 1. Depict damage and intensity in the affected areas by the shake. 2. See data like magnitude, distance from fault lines, location of epicenter, and active fault lines in just one click.3. Sends Tsunami and Aftershock alerts. 4. Have good visualization of plate displacements after earth shakes.

How We Developed This Project

Speaking of challenge, this project made our team more engaged on issues regarding space data. All things are created out of perseverance, however, we cannot deny the obstacles we obstruct along the way.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Ask us, what makes this particular application different? Is it all we have got? Nope, we still have the use of space data.
