Orbital Sky

A huge number of satellites in Earth's orbit support our day-to-day life on the ground. Your challenge is to develop a method to improve public knowledge of these satellites, with an eye towards driving user engagement, enthusiasm, and exploration.

Getting to Know Your Satellite(s)

Summary

Satellite technology has made convenience a part of daily modern life. We can easily forget how fortunate we are to have the connections and communications made available by the countless ways that satellites affect us and how we interact with the world.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We are developing a website to connect users with satellites. This is important because the average person may go their whole lives with only a vague idea of what satellites do to make life easier.

How We Developed This Project

We were inspired by the surprising lack of what we knew ourselves about satellites. Our approach was to begin with a team and the brainstorm took a lot longer that it should. We had to learn ourselves about the data and information. We felt that at a minimum, we needed a website, so that is where we focused. We found a tutorial website template and felt like we could use it as a way to connect and educate to bring curiosity and education to the community. We determined that with the abundance of resources, we could consolidate and redesign the ideas into a pleasant and engaging interface with a user experience that improved knowledge, increased enthusiasm, and encouraged exploration with the information and potential of the technology.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We had to use NASA.gov just to know more about satellites. There we found a treasure trove of games, apps, crafts, etc.
