Lovers of the Galaxy has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!
Given the problem of the Orbital Sky challenge, we developed the Set a Light app. Our app has the mission to be an educational game capable of bringing the knowledge about the world of satellites to children 8 years old and older in an illustrative and interactive way, using storytelling and game elements. According to Piaget (1993), this approach is important since learning begins when an individual can perceive the things around him, thus exploring the environment around him. In this context, making a tool accessible to children for interaction with the world of satellites familiarizes them with this technology of high relevance today.
Set a light creates an immersive scenario for the child, where she will be referred to as an astronaut. First, the child will be taught about the history of satellites and their types through a flow of information accompanied by illustrations that will facilitate their understanding. Then, Set a Light will allow the child to use the camera of his cell phone to search for satellites that will be presented through augmented reality. These satellites will appear based on data provided by NASA regarding their trajectories, locations and other specificities. When registering a new satellite, the child will be able to observe its information, such as name, type, nationality and among other curiosities. Furthermore, the satellites registered by the child will be permanently available on your SatDex, an album that you can consult whenever you wish.
Finally, we believe that Set a Light will be able to impact society by awakening in children the desire to know more about satellites and, consequently, other elements of space. Thus, the number of people who know about this technology and are aware of its importance will grow, which will enable even more the emergence of innovative minds capable of further improving this segment.
Inspired to bring this incredible universe of satellites to children, uniting technology with pedagogy, we developed a MVP through the prototyping software Figma, with the concern of being intuitive and accessible, in addition to creating a visual identity that would attention of our target audience with animations and in form of a game to make the child dive into the world of satellites and become interested in learning more and more about them.
We use satellite location data from NASA's database, available at
<https://data.nasa.gov/Earth-Science/SSC-RESTful-Web-Services-API/tngu-vb3z>, to locate the satellites and the child can know their real location.
The objective is to evolve the project, so that the application notifies the user when a satellite is approaching its location, so that it will be able to follow the trajectory and register a new satellite in its album.
