Orbital AR Technology| Orbital Sky

Orbital Sky

A huge number of satellites in Earth's orbit support our day-to-day life on the ground. Your challenge is to develop a method to improve public knowledge of these satellites, with an eye towards driving user engagement, enthusiasm, and exploration.

Orbital Technology

Summary

In this file there are present the different satellites saved in the NORAD site. Choosing to enter all satellites with a real-time update. Subsequently the parsed data is loaded on to a JSON file in order to the manage the information for the satellites. In this phase a series of filters has been developed in order to save only part of information necessary for the presence of the satellite in space. Space information is contained in the TLE file which has been converted to space coordinates {x,y,z} by pyorbital. Then, we managed the graphics part, in which we created the web app in order to bring the hypothetical user to the app.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The aim of the project is to ensure the importance of the satellite. With this in mind the Team has channeled resources in the realization of this web app that allows the visualization of artificial satellites in space. The App’s operation is this, it stores in a JSON file the satellite locations contained in the TLE files. With this we hope that more people will understand the importance of the operation of the satellite. Thus, people can recognize fake news about satellites.

How We Developed This Project

This Hackathon have a lot of interesting challenges, however the Team would choose Orbital Sky, because satellite allows connections at high distances, therefore making everyone more united even in dark times like the just passed lockdown.

In this project, we used Python, html, Java Script and CSS programming languages, and using as programming environments Virtual Studio code and PyCharm.

The problems encountered in this project have been multiple, they related to our shortcomings and difficulties in writing language, because of our ambitious plans. Indeed, the most problems are the management of the time and lacking knowledge of the implementation characteristics. This too involved to the writing of useless codes and wasting time.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

In this project we wanted to use different sources, in order to achieve a worthy result comparable to the real cases. Indeed, we referred to the sources proposed in the site of our challenge and then following the advice offered in the chat Hackathon.

This allowed us to have a multitude of information, making our project as accurate as possible. Thus, in the project, it was possible to report the orbits of the various satellites and to have a worthy library containing several satellites. This has influenced our perception of the large amount of information behind satellite management.
