Space Crew has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!
To arouse people's interest in getting to know space, celestial objects and satellites in particular, we created the application that will allow users to learn about cosmos in an interactive way.
Our app shows the Earth with all the man made satellites on its' orbit, additionally it displays ground based observatories. Data is taken from space agency data and other open sources. It can be extended with additional data sources.
We show Earth hologram and display satellites around it, user can overview different satellites and their orbits, selecting interesting satellite show additional information about it and 3d model if available, also we show selected satellite's orbit and animate it's motion. Time speed can be increased in order to better view movements. Two or more users can interact with the same hologram the same as they can do with physical object. "Interest point" feature forms news feed for user and brings him to the related satellite that should stimulate exploration.
We believe that the latest AR technologies can open totally new experience for interacting with data. This will help people to widen their knowledge and grow their interest to satellites.
We decided that it would be interested to display satellites with help of AR (Hololens)
We use Unity game engine since it is one of the two game engines that has good integration with Hololens/Holoens2. C# language was used since it is main language supported by Unity.
Main problem: SSC RESTFUL API isn't user friendly for new users, also the latest sdk isn't available
Main achievements: build working demo for domain that we didn't work before
We use information about ground station from the SSC RESTFUL API.
For tracking position of the satellites we use Space-track, it gives as TLE that allows to display orbit.
