Orbital Sky

A huge number of satellites in Earth's orbit support our day-to-day life on the ground. Your challenge is to develop a method to improve public knowledge of these satellites, with an eye towards driving user engagement, enthusiasm, and exploration.

Malaysia's Satellites

Summary

Visualization of the current location of Malaysia's satellites on 2D map

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed an application that can visualize the current location of the satellites launched by Malaysia on a 2D map. Hence, Malaysians will be inform about the latest information about the satellites launched by Malaysia.

How We Developed This Project

We chosen this challenge to increase the public knowledge of Malaysian about the Malaysia's satellites. We used Jupyter Notebook to produce python script that retrieve the latest satellite GPS relative to a location on Earth from n2yo API. Then, the latest satellite GPS (longitude and latitude) is used to plot on 2D map by using the package 'folium'. Thus, the current location of the satellites is visualized, so that it is user friendly.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

n2yo API. It's used to obtain the latest satellite GPS (longitude and latitude) relative to a location on Earth.
