The development of our of our project is based on the way an ion thruster works, and how it provides us with a lot of advantages named in the previous summary. I think the most important advantage is how little it pollutes compared to the currently used chemical propulsion, which is more dangerous and dumps a lot of toxic waste and pollutants. Currently, pollution is one of the main factors that affect planet earth and to be eco-sustainable with this. Another point to highlight is the relationship of speed with respect to chemical propulsion is that ionic propulsion is constant, unlike chemical propulsion.
The importance of this project is that if it could be used on long trips, whether manned or not, having it would provide us with great advantages and more interplanetary trips with the advantage of being eco-sustainable and fast.
The operation of the ion thruster is based on using a beam of ions (electrically charged molecules or atoms) for propulsion. The precise method of accelerating the ions can vary, but all designs use the advantage of the charge-mass ratio of the ions to accelerate them to very high speeds using an electric field. Part of its design is In its simplest design, an electrostatic ion propellant, argon, mercury or xenon atoms are ionized by exposing electrons from a cathode. Ions are accelerated by passing them through charged gratings. Electrons are also fired into the ion beam exiting the gratings as positively charged ions leaving the propellant. This keeps the spacecraft and thruster beam electrically neutral. Acceleration uses a very small mass, with a very high specific impulse
The aspiration of this project is to put aside the chemical propulsion that pollutes and is risky and to start using ionic propulsion that is sustainable and safe, added to the advantage of going faster to the desired destination and thus being able to establish a transportation infrastructure for obtain useful exploration and colonization data
Project development
The inspiration for the idea comes from the way that all of us in the team like astronomy and intergalactic and interplanetary travel. In addition to the constant way of researching and reading about new things and innovations. The approach to developing the project was that beyond being fast and efficient, it was safe and did not pollute
Problems arose when putting the idea together well, it was a loose idea that was gaining strength over time and well here we are haha !!!
