Faster-than-light travel is the key to humanity’s dreams of inter-galactic space travel. Your challenge is to create an app, tool, game, or other interactive application that showcases both existing, as well as next generation/theoretical, breakthrough spacecraft propulsion in an engaging way.

Speed Guess

Summary

This is a console-based game. As the name mentions the user will have to guess the speed of a spacecraft equipped with the given type of spacecraft propulsion system. For each round, the name and a brief description of the type of propulsion system is given. The user then gets a chance to guess the speed. After the user inputs their guess, the program will check to see if they guessed the correct number. If guessed correctly, the user will be taken to the next round; otherwise the user has a chance to keep guessing repeatedly until they get the correct answer (user also has the option to quit anytime). Once all the rounds have been completed, the game will end.

How I Addressed This Challenge

This game allows individuals of all ages to learn more about the current and future spacecraft propulsion systems in an engaging way. This program can be used as an educational game in schools or institutions to raise awareness of the propulsion technologies that currently exist and the new ones being released in the future; as well as raise interest in the field of the development of new space propulsion systems.

How I Developed This Project
  • This project was developed in java.
  • Used resources from NASA that provided information on the different types of propulsion systems.
  • Since individuals learn faster when they are involved or interacting with the material, the aim of this project was to engage the user as much as possible to get the best experience for learning.
How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Properties and descriptions of different spacecraft propulsion systems from NASA's official website were used in the project through the brief descriptions and fun facts output messages.
