Breakthrough

Faster-than-light travel is the key to humanity’s dreams of inter-galactic space travel. Your challenge is to create an app, tool, game, or other interactive application that showcases both existing, as well as next generation/theoretical, breakthrough spacecraft propulsion in an engaging way.

Space Dummies

Summary

Our game shows how spacecraft becomes faster and more effective as it is upgraded. The game is about a novice astronaut who must collect resources (from space junk and resources he extracts from different planets) to improve his ship. Despite being a simple game, it displays information about planets in an attractive way. In spite of being a lot about science fiction, the game shows real information and can attract young people to the space exploration. Our project consists of a simplified sketch of the central idea, which would have to be improved upon professionally, in which case it would include more information, questions each time the ship is improved and would be more interactive.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We decided to develop a game in which the character is recruited to go into space by NASA. In his adventure through space he needs to collect space junk to improve his ships and go faster and faster to the speed of light. We hope this game could inspire people about the space travel and exploration.

How We Developed This Project

We choose this challenge because we liked the idea of doing something creative and usefull. And because of our academic experience and personal interests, the challenge was fit for us. We use the app Game maker which is used to program games or tools. It is very easy to use for beginners. It was difficult for us to find an hour in which we all can work together, but we fixed it. We came up with the idea of the upgrading of spacecrafts beacose it had to do with the speed. then, we set aside tasks, and while some of us were programing the others find out ideas or edit the characters view.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We based the planets in our game on planets that were dicovered by NASA and implented that data of those planets into the game. This data is directly from NASA and serves the purpose of making the game more engaging and informative
