Ancestral Space| Create a Mascot

Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

Copernicus comes to your home

Summary

Copernicus was named in honor to the Prussian astronomer Nicolas Copernicus who developed the heliocentric theory. Our project addresses this challenge from the creativity and imagination, we think of Copernicus as that character who can connect with the public through breakfast, since breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day we think this challenge as an way to take advantage of that time of day when we were eating our breakfast can also be enriching to feed our minds since Copernicus is designed to pose challenges on the back side of the box cereal that allows both adults and young people get into the world of science.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our mascot is born from the idea of exploring that science and art can be one, because both share that quality of imagining things that are beyond the reach of our minds, because it is through curiosity and imagination that wonderful things can be created.

That is why as a team we decided to put ourselves in the task of imagining a mascot that would share that message with all young people throughout the world. Our proposal addresses the idea of a cereal box with Copernicus character as the mascot, an anthropomorphic being that intends to share with young people the most important meal of the day, while stimulating their minds with fun challenges related to science. Copernicus was named in honor to the Prussian astronomer Nicolas Copernicus who developed the heliocentric theory of the solar system.

The team's common idea that art, music and food is something we can all share regardless of language, race or age made us imagine that Copernicus could be that way to connect with the public. As a team we decided that the idea of generating a visual proposal was a fun way to explore that creativity that we still have inside and that we want to share with the world.

How We Developed This Project

Our team was inspired to choose this challenge as a way to articulate art with science since we consider that both share that quality of imagining things that go beyond our minds. We focus on the promotion of science and space through food such as cereal, having Copernicus as a mascot. We believe that people can share the love of adventure, imagination and the ability to create things from what comes from our minds.

To create the idea of our cereal box with Copernicus as a character we used Illustrator (AI), Photoshop (PS) and After Effects (AE) programs as main tools; finally, we desarrollated our website with Wix.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used as reference snoopy the previous NASA mascot, Snoopy as a character made us consider the creation of a character with animal characteristics that would share that interest in science and space. We thought of Copernicus as that mascot who shares with Snoopy the emotion for science, technology and space.
