Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

Pepe

Summary

The Pepe project proposes reaching young people from 15 to 25 years through access to scientific content, suggesting ways for everyone in all its multiplicities of color, gender, social class and religion to have access to quality education. In this context, the focus is for the information to be taken in a simple way, generating an engagement of the audience and resulting in a feeling that NASA and all its innovation is something real, close and palpable. The goal here is to become part of these young people´s lives, inspiring them to immerse themselves in the immensity of knowledge that humanity, the Earth and the Universe have to offer

How We Addressed This Challenge

A mascot that becomes interlocutor between NASA and young students, presenting their vision and objectives, making it the identity of actions that result in accessibility to scientific information.

How We Developed This Project

Diving into biology, we found the tardigrade, an animal that has a lot of common characteristics with NASA. Such as resistant, adaptable and universal. Becoming an identity of actions aimed to popularizing scientific information, through the spreading of the brand with digital media, generating a lovemark relationship. Thinking at the heart of the cause, we propose to act in the educational function of the project, raising funds for donations that support education with the image licensing by NASA, among others. The idea is to use Pepe to bring young people closer to the organization, creating a sense of belonging, making science more accessible and easier to understand.

The project's inspiration came from the feeling of distance from science in common with Ana, the main character in the story.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA's mission descriptions and values to guide the mascot's usability, so that it is not just a figure, but the identity of a project aimed to the humanization of scientific information. We also used photos from the galleries to get inspiration for the mascot's clothing and the information provided by NASA for students and to understand how to make communication more assertive
