We have developed a python based application which uses user's webcam and fingers and allows them to draw and write on their screen.
Teachers teaching online ,find it very difficult to write and draw in order to explain ,due to the absence of classroom boards, especially while teaching subjects like mathematics and physics which are diagrammatically very challenging to explain. Drawing or explaining on virtual Paint type applications disturbs the students while having online classes.
It captures your fingers position around the webcam and the draws corresponding points on the Screen.
It uses the webcam of the user’s laptop and figures the hand by masking the hand.
After which it calculates the position of the user’s finger and draws corresponding points accordingly, on the screen.
We want teachers to comfortably express themselves while teaching online. They should feel like writing or drawing on the board as on their screens and that should make online teaching a good experience, using the Hover-Draw application.
Education has been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic with 1.53 billion learners out of school, impacting 87.6% of the world’s total enrolled learners.
As a result, the system of imparting education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms.
At first we researched about the challenges teachers teaching online were facing. We ourselves as students, face problems in understanding the concepts of Mathematics in our online classes. Therefore we thought of developing an application or rather an online blackboard . Thus with the help of opencv module ,we coded this application.
We have used:
We had to go through opencv module very often .
We found this application very useful in drawing and teaching mathematics.
It is a very good tool for explanatory purposes. Especially drawing on the screen ,gives it a 3D effect, very interesting for teaching space technology.
