Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

Marsel

Summary

Marsel transfers information from NASA scientists to children and everyone who wants to learn more about space in a simple and playful way. The cat has a helmet, so it can breathe in outer space. He has ability to fly, so he can collect information about the planets, the solar system, and also constellations. According to legend, Martians have a green skin, that's why our Martian cat has a green fur too. We hope that Space Apps will recruit Marseille to the team, and one day the star on his collar will change to the NASA logo.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our Maskot is a cat because people love cat. We give people what they want.

This cat is playful, smart and purrfect just like all cats, but at the same time he is super. That's why it's a supercat.

Our cat is appealing and recognizable (try his wonderful stickers).

The cat could learn to change the color of his coat, but he doesn't have time for this because he's too busy.

This cat is for...

• children (6-12 years) via Likee

• teenagers (13-18 years)

• people 20+ years

Marsel will gather his friends on Instagram, Telegram, TikTok, YouTube and show them entries in his electronic diary, in which he writes down everything he learns from NASA. In the future, he will definitely teach children to draw constellations and show them 3D models of planets and the solar system on their smartphones. Of course, our cat will become interactive as soon as our team find an AR developer (it's easier than you think).

How We Developed This Project

Mascot is the personification of the idea that underlies any company. The idea of The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is inspiring the world by exploring new frontiers, discovering new knowledge, and developing new technology. We want to help NASA, so we created Marcel, the cat that transfers information from NASA scientists to children and everyone who wants to learn more about space in a simple and playful way.

We have studied promotion channels and identified social networks as one of the best ways to convey information. However, the structure of the social network allows only the last post to be displayed. Therefore, we want to use social networks to redirect to a convenient online encyclopedia, which is constantly updated with information directly from NASA news.

Thanks to the online mode, in the future, you can add educational games and QR codes to the site with purpose to display AR models.

We used:

• application Procreate to draw our cat;

• Instagram to tell about our idea and are already starting to gather friends to share with them about NASA's discoveries. Our friends are people all over the world who would be interested in discovering Space;

• Paint .NET to design photos for Instagram page;

• Infographic to prove that solution in this form is the best one. Source: https://www.swnsdigital.com/2019/09/traditional-childrens-hobbies-have-been-replaced-by-modern-phenomena-such-as-computer-and-mobile-games/

• HTML, CSS, JS to create design of the page;

• github.com to deploy the concept of the solution;

• canva.com to create the presentation.

Achievements:

Instagram page with 50 real subscribers in 4 hours.

Concept of the page.

Telegram sticker pack with 6 beautiful stickers.

Problems

We need an AR-developer and 3D-designer to create augmented reality 3D models.

We need Android and iOS/Flutter developers to create a game.

We need 3D-animator to start TikTok and YouTube marketing company.
