Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

SpaceBart

Summary

SpaceBart is a computer-generated mascot, designed using Microsoft PowerPoint. It is whimsical and visually recognizable(coined from Simpson Bart Deep Space Homer). It is targeted towards younger people, to eliminate the idea that space and earth education and exploration are only for older people but increases the interest of infants and teenagers in space and earth education.Spacevart will help to make learning about complex space data and information easier and fun-filled. A demo is shown on a website we created that displays the mascot taking learners on a tour to in space. Spacebart is very interactive and the learners would love it.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed SpaceBart, a cartoon animated mascot. It is important because it helps to learning about earth and space fun.

It makes use of its interactions to create a connection with the learner, hereby getting the learner's attention which makes learning easier and unforgettable.

It uses the face of a popular character to call the attention of young learners and also making space data and information easier to understand.

We hope to help young learners know more about space and earth education.

How We Developed This Project

After studying the education and learning process of space and earth science, we observed the inaccessibility of space and earth data to interested young minds and also the complexity in the data accessible to the public. Our resolute passion toward problem solving inspired us to choose this challenge.

We used AGILE approach to development, which entails: Problem recognition, Research, Feasibility study, Prototyping and Implementation.

We used Microsoft PowerPoint as a graphic tool for the Mascot Creation, HTML, CSS, LESS, SCSS and JavaScript for web development of live demo.

No problem was encountered, the team members responsible for the graphics were able to discover new skills while using tools provided in Microsoft PowerPoint and also in creating the website.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We made use of images such as;

from Nasa Image Gallery(https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/) as feature of the live demo, to create a 2D user experience/tour of space exploration with the created mascot; Spacebart.
