The world around us is evolving day by day, but so far, this remarkable development has not reached space as desired, so it was important to examine how to apply and implement some techniques that may help in achieving progress there so we had to think about the modality to endear the new generation in astronomy and earth science. And as our category is creating a mascot, we found that there is nothing better than designing a video game to make our audience (children from the age of 6 to 12) learn with fun. And this game will be available on Windows and mobile app, but in advance, the idea of the flutter will be used to make the app available on IOS and Android, too. But the distinctive about the usage of the game idea in learning is that it is supported by many important theories related to phycology like incentive theory and self-determination theory which form a clear impact on the user in terms of appreciation and performance as there is a person who has the motivation to perform a certain task in the game in order to gain the reward or avoid the punishment and the others have defended their interests and personal rewards, so while designing the game we were keen to provide all appropriate motives for all the types of people such as tasks of different levels and rewards of various kinds and by this way, the audience will be attracted simplicity and easily. And then let's have some details about the
mechanism of the game (we already have two main characters Vega& Polaris who will have a terrible journey to find their 7 siblings that they lost in space) so,
The first level of the game begins with the landing of the vehicle on the planet Mercury, then a robot comes to them that tells them some simple information about the planet such as its shape, temperature, color...etc. and they should focus on collecting and understanding these important data as they will be used later, Then the race begins around the planet, which begins with five stages. You have to increase the level bar according to your position in the race and pass the second stage of the race. If you are not in the first three places you lose and restart the race, and if your ship is destroyed before the end of the race, your level bar decrease.
In the end, each stage in the race tells you more information about the planet, and at the end of all stages, there will be a small test to confirm the information that was presented to the child and it is optional. The answer to the test gives you some extra money. They can be used in the store, which increases the enthusiasm of the child and can return the stage to obtain additional money. Then they find the first brother, and there is a bar at the top that contains the extent of their progress in their journey and when the race ends and it goes to the next level, it takes time until it reaches the next planet until the child feels the extent of the distance between the planets and by this way, the audience will get a lot of important information and will actually live with it second by second so by applying the game, we hope to achieve progress in establishing a generation fond of space science, strive to make the developed technology arrive there easier and faster and what actually make our idea unique is that you will learn and have fun at the same time.
We believe that preparing the new generation is an excellent way will save the universe later. We chose this challenge because we want to build a generation with awareness about the mission and vision of Nasa and this is including awareness about the space, moons, planets, earth science, and other NASA data. These data are extremely difficult for a child between the age of 6 to 12, so we seek to simplify these pieces of knowledge by fun and non-boring techniques.
Colors, designs, and animations attract children so we started to play on this point to attract them, we used the UI /UX design to get the attention of children. By making them learn and play at the same time, children will adore the game. We also developed the game by applying the gamification system; they will have the ability to gain awards and points in order to buy what they want for their characters even their clothes because they should wear suitable suits according to the temperature of the planet.
In the way of applying this game we used Unity and C# for designing the main app, the app is in its progress and not completed until yet. We used Build Box for creating a sample or a demo for the game. The PowerPoint is used for explaining the idea briefly and the Word for writing the idea. A laptop is used for completing all the tasks, making the presentation, and creating the app.
The main problem we faced is the time, the time was too limited, we tried to finish the challenge idea, explaining, make the presentation, create the app in only two days. This required too much work and fewer hours for sleeping.
Achievements: -
-In the app
1-Using the gamification system (a set of activities and processes to solve problems by using or applying the characteristics of game elements).
2- attract the children by using UI/UX design (the color scheme is the main visual guide for most children's activities, attracting attention, creating moods, and so on).
3-create unique characters which will be stuck in children minds (Vega and Polaris) and this will make them have more ability for learning,
3-simplify astronomy and earth science topics, Taking into account children's absorption capacity.
4- create a new app idea that depends on an attractive story and adventure which is suitable for children in this age
5-create the app as a game for mobile systems (IOS or Android) and for windows so its availability will be wide on all computers, laptops, and phones.
In the teamwork: -
1- We have overcome the problem of time; all the tasks have been finished in only two days. (accomplished the goal in a very short period).
2- we learned some tricks in designing the PowerPoint and putting voice over a video.
4-Dividing the task fairly between the team members according to their skills.
NASA data is very important so children should be aware of it at a young age, but this information is very complex, we used these data in earth science and astronomy after simplifying in order to be taught in the app. The topic differs from each level to the other in order to gain more and more information after the completion of all levels. Children should have a brief about earth mentoring and satellites, so we used the data of CNES for reading more about this topic and study satellite components and after simplifying this information they will be shown in the app in an attractive and funny way.
