Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

Project: Robot - Mascot Command: ro.bo

Summary

The problem that we solve in the course of our work is the transfer of information to children about Space and Earth in a language they understand. We solved it by assembling the WALL-E robot, which can explain everything to children in 3 languages (in the future). At the moment, our robot can speak in English, he hears the opponent's speech and answers questions. Also, the robot can joke and hold a conversation.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The solution to this problem:

• Robot Wall-E, which answers in clear and simple language to all questions of interest

• Summarizes the information received and gives only the necessary answers

• Can accompany a person

• Jokes and keeps the conversation going

Why is this happening?

1. Adults are loaded with everyday problems

2. being busy and not spending time with the children

3. Unusual questions from the children "Where did the Earth come from?", To which adults can rarely give a clear answer

4. Impulsive progress of the world, which we simply cannot keep up with

5. Continuous flow of available information

Objective: To invent and create a robot - talisman that will tell young researchers about history of the achievements of mankind in a simple language.

Solution: With EV3 box and Python + Micro Python software

What inspired us?

If you cannot explain something to a child, then you do not know it yourself.

Albert Einstein

During the day, the child asks 200-300 questions and not every one of us can answer the child in clear and simple language.

And surely it had happened for each of us.

The solution to this problem:

How We Developed This Project

What does this lead to?

• The child gets vague answers.

• Loses interest in the topic

• Relationships between adults and younger generations can deteriorate

Robot materials

• The robot is assembled from a set of Mindstorms EV3, can react to the approach of various objects, waving his hands, moving his head and making sounds

• The program is written in two languages Python and Micro Python. As for the program that is responsible for its speech side, it is in Python and there Google API is used as a speech recognition library with the installation of the Speech Recognition module.

• Connecting to a microphone is done through the installed Pyaudio module, and the text-to-speech conversion is done through the pyttsx3 module.

• The is done rest by saving commands with their previously saved responses

• The program responsible for the movement of the robot is written in Micro Python, by installing the Mindstorms EV3 library

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Based on information from the NASA and JAXA website, we have developed a text suitable for a young audience (in the code this is a fitting, with the further implementation of our idea we will work out a more professional text for children). we believe that the main source of information about space is information provided by NASA, which is why we took everything from their websites.

Basically, in the further development of this project, the information will be changed with the help of professional teachers for the perception of children.
