Create a Mascot

The world is full of scientific information that can help us make informed decisions and take action. However, that information is not always accessible to young learners. Your challenge is to create a mascot that can help make learning about Earth and space science more fun and welcoming for younger audiences.

Space-Rabbit

Summary

Space rabbit. Is an Interactive game; a visual and playful teaching tool. It catches the attention and curiosity of children in the field of astronomy and helps them understand space exploration importance. It is effective in children 5 to 9 years old.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Space rabbit:

Is an Interactive game; a visual and playful teaching tool. It catches the attention and curiosity of children in the field of astronomy and helps them understand space exploration’s importance. It is effective in children 5 to 9 years old.

Emotional and social

changes of children who could use space rabbit at this age show:

1.     More independence from parents and family.

2.     Begin to think about the future.

3.     A better understanding of their place in the world.

4.     Start to pay more attention to friendships and teamwork.

5.     Want to be loved and accepted by their friends.

Children at this age

show increased reasoning and learning abilities such as:

1.     Quick development of their mental abilities.

2.     Better ways to describe their experiences, ideas and feelings.

3.     Focus less on themselves and care more for others.

They still have their

childhood heroes such as Mom and Dad, they are open to become heroes or develop

their capabilities. In humans, the power that can be developed and that offers

individual surplus value is knowledge.

A

legend rises

In this

way, merging a legend and a mission such as the legend of the rabbit on the

moon and the task of NASA, which is to conquer and describe space for humanity,

the concept of this interactive instructor inspired by a Mexican legend was

born, where Cali is the bunny on the moon.

The legend

tells us that Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, is one of the most important

deities of the Mayan culture due to the power that the star grants her over

human life. Among her blessings and everything related to the cycles of the

moon, such as fertility, pregnancy, water, crops and also in love in its

entirety. And this is how the rabbit that always accompanies the goddess

represents the wonderful natural satellite of our planet.

Development

of the topic

Humanity

has never stopped dreaming and imagining. The garden of dreams and imagination

are in a single stage, where you learn to search endlessly for all the answers

during childhood.

We have

all been a child, even the great dreamers who reached the moon. Astronauts

are travelers who have managed to transcend beyond the known kilometers of the

human mind. One thing these men and women are sure of, is that the journey must

continue. As well to bring this opportunity for a new generation of children to

participate. They painted an arrow as far as they were able to go and they want

those who follow, to go far beyond their set goals.

That is

why astronauts such as: Neil Armstrong (helmet), Buzz Aldrin (pants), Yuri

Gagarin (oxygen tanks), Valentina Tereshkova (pectoral jacket), Rodolfo Neri

vela (boots) and Michel Collins (gloves), left their teachings and they put

together a spacesuit for the next astronaut of the future. This suit was given

to Cali, the moon’s bunny, to hide each piece in a different place on the moon.

They left instructions for explorers interested in traveling beyond where they

arrived, and they must answer the questions or riddles that they left as a lock

for each piece.

They can

look for more options about astronauts according to the questions they want to

answer and present a short description of each character, and thus, graph their

question with three answers to choose from. The reagents are simple and

illustrative, in each hit you will be given a part of the astronaut suit and so

you can continue to the next question. The questions are about the solar

system: names of constellations, sizes of planets, etc. The astronaut helmet is

the final question and gift.

Why would you like to

be an astronaut?

The

answer, whatever it may be, will be the correct answer. After having passed all

the previous ones, no matter what motives, dreams or aspirations, everything

already at that stage is correct.

You are

informed that you are ready to travel beyond the stars.

How We Developed This Project

Space rabbit aims to interest new generations in the existential problem of the preservation of the species and life, based on its ability to adapt, seeking new frontiers and atmospheres that allow continuity and vital consequence.

The character emerged through a pencil and paper sketch by one of the members of the project and later came to life digitally in Adobe Illustrator, where several creative minds collaborated in giving Tuleek a charming personality, since she is a very friendly, funny, tender, dynamic, affectionate, intelligent, very curious, but above all, a space loving bunny.

Development of the space pet

Tuleek wants to welcome you to Space Rabbit. She is a very charismatic bunny and will be our interactive assistant throughout this adventure with which you will share your journey to the stars. Its name is inspired by a legend of the Mayan culture, which is one of the most important civilizations in Mexico and throughout the world, its etymology in this language being T'u'ul and eek ', which means ‘rabbit of the stars’.

Its anatomy is fluffy and soft, due to its abundant fur, and its eyes radiate tenderness, a very attractive visual aspect for our little ones at home. Our assistant must find the pieces of her astronaut suit scattered on the moon, and with the help of our little explorer we will reach this goal. This virtual assistant is focused on children between the ages of 4-8 years, however it will captivate the general public as it will help them awaken curiosity about space.

Tuleek is persistent; Their perseverance, tenacity, responsibility, discipline and capacity for exploration will help establish gender equity in all areas in the encounter with knowledge.

Space rabbit aims to interest new generations in the existential problem of the preservation of the species and life, based on its ability to adapt, seeking new frontiers and atmospheres that allow continuity and vital consequence.

Our main task is to contribute topics in the field of astronomy and thus encourage enthusiasm for learning, for losing the fear of limits and the known kilometers of the human mind. As well as teaching that all advances are not scattered achievements, the transcendence is to give continuity to dreams and challenges, making this a collective task and teamwork. Therefore, the pet uses its sympathy and dynamism to evoke the childhood personality and curiosity and thus empathize with the child, becoming a team to achieve a common goal: learning.

The interactive didactic experience is the key situation of functionality. As long as knowledge is achieved, there is an implicit teacher and learning is change in behavior.

The way in which the mascot will be interactive will be in its teaching format, in which in operant conditioning establishes the exchange of data for learning by incentives, which in this case are not tokens, but prizes that symbolize an achievement for a common good .

This assistant will be presented as a virtual guide for future cosmonauts. It will explain NASA's challenge of the conquest of space and will focus your attention on some representative astronauts in the history of astronomy. The possibility of becoming an astronaut will be established, if you want to live the experience of knowing and discovering your vocation together. It will show basic historical information about astronauts and our solar system; generating reagents to answer and win the pieces of the spacesuit. In this way, it is explained that the astronauts left their teachings and assembled a space suit for the astronaut of the future. This suit was given to Goddess Ixchel so that she and Tuleek would hide each piece in a different place on the moon. They left instructions so that those interested in traveling beyond where they arrived must answer the questions or riddles that they left as a lock for each piece.

The quiz is simple and illustrative and for each hit you will be given a part of the astronaut suit and continue to the next question. The questions are about the solar system: names of constellations, sizes of planets, etc.

The assistant has images of the following cosmonauts and the gifts they left to Tuleek in their custody from Ixchel.

Neil Armstrong (Donated a space helmet)

Buzz Aldrin (donated a space pants)

Yuri Gagarin (Donated a couple of oxygen tanks)

Valentina Tereshkova (donated a pectoral jacket)

Rodolfo Neri vela (donated some space boots)

Michel Collins (donated her space gloves)

The helmet will be the final question and gift. The final question being:

Why would you like to be an astronaut?

The answer, whatever this is, will be the correct one, after having passed all the previous ones, no matter what motives, dreams or aspirations, everything already in that stage is correct. The new cosmonaut has a responsibility for the future: Never lose curiosity, nor the ability to dream and follow their dreams beyond the kilometers traveled.

You are informed that you are ready to travel beyond the stars.
