Since one of the members of our team is a middle school student, we felt that the challenge should be accessible to him. After a first brainstorming, we started jotting down ideas and using Power Point to create slides. A piece of paper and a pencil were used to create the first sketch of our mascot, and later the drawing was digitalized.
The first problem we encountered was working remotely. Not being able to physically work together posed a challenge that we solved using video meetings. Furthermore the age difference among the teammates initially seemed a problem, but was actually a pro for us because of the different approaches to the challenge.
In each episode of Rocky the Spaceship, when Rocky lands on a planet, asteroid, satellite, etc., there will be real video clips from images.NASA.gov that the children can watch with a commentary from Mrs. Jame. Furthermore, videos will even be used as settings for each episode. In the cartoon children will see Rocky moving on a real background.
