Let's Connect

For bigger spacecraft capable of executing bigger missions, some of the assembly may be done in space. Your challenge is to design a simple approach that enables components to be assembled in space.

3 degree pneumatic manipulator

Summary

This is a 3 degree of freedom pneumatic manipulator. It has 3 end effectors to maximize gripping of desired object. It uses a 25*50 single acting pneumatic piston and is able to rotate 360 degrees due to the gear attached and the ball bearing attached to the base of the links and end effectors. I attached a link to google drive where you will find a zip folder containing the assembled gripper and its parts

How We Addressed This Challenge

the manipulator can be attached outside of space ships and aid in assembly of satellites or space stations

How We Developed This Project

My brother and I really like designing tools and robots on Solidworks CAD so we chose this challenge as we can design a tool that will hopefully aid in humanity's dream of living in space.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

we watched the video on In-Space Servicing and Assembly (iSSA)
