Let's Connect

For bigger spacecraft capable of executing bigger missions, some of the assembly may be done in space. Your challenge is to design a simple approach that enables components to be assembled in space.

Project Tawanda

Summary

Tawanda is a name of African origin that means "we are many". We use this name because the project aims to use the support of several nations in setting up a larger space station. To remember that we are a big family!Currently, the complexity and time to execute a coupling is very large, and it was this problem that we seek to solve:Our objective was to simplify the process of coupling the space modules. We created a connection pattern (based on the aerial refueling system) that will make coupling much easier, reducing coupling time and complexity. We suggest using the metal alloy already used in space modules or also carbon fiber which is lighter and more resistant.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We created a connection pattern (based on the aerial refueling system) that will make coupling much easier, reducing coupling time and complexity.

How We Developed This Project

We love everything that surrounds space. We always wanted to help space exploration, and now we have that chance. We tried to choose a challenge that didn't need programming skills because we wouldn't be able to do something like that.

We followed the mentors' recommendations to develop the entire project.

We only use computers and cell phones to conduct research, meetings and documents.

We had many ideas and difficulty to choose one, but after being chosen we focused on completing the project.

The harmony of the team to complete the project and the optimization of time was very smooth!
