Let's Connect

For bigger spacecraft capable of executing bigger missions, some of the assembly may be done in space. Your challenge is to design a simple approach that enables components to be assembled in space.

PitConnect

Summary

In our Project, we tried to minimize the problems experienced in combining different parts in space. When vehicles and stations are joining in space, skidding and damages can occur, we thought to develop a mechanism that would minimize these damages and drifts. In this mechanism, flexible arms hold the vehicle to prevent a dangerous situation from occurring, and then the robots we are considering to develop enable with the information they receive from laser sensors to clamp the combination of both vehicles or stations more accurately.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project is designed to minimize possible accidents in space. In this project, we wanted to minimize material damage and loss of life. With this mechanism, we aim to convert micro parts into macro parts with less cost. The mechanism we are considering to design will be used in more than one structure and we think it can be a more useful part.

How We Developed This Project

Big Hero-6 animation inspired us and we started developing this project. Most technological tools in the world can now be used as very very small parts, but the tools used in space are very large. That's why we now think that these smaller and more functional pieces are necessary for our adventures in space. So we thought these parts were necessary mechanisms for work in space. In our project, we used laser receiver and transmitter sensors, camera sensors, pressure sensors, hydraulic (flexible) arms and robot arms.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We examined the data of the International Space Station. The data consists of videos of what processes the spacecraft, which is approaching the space station, goes through to connect. We thought about these data and tried to apply this data to the mechanism we wanted to establish.
