Let's Connect

For bigger spacecraft capable of executing bigger missions, some of the assembly may be done in space. Your challenge is to design a simple approach that enables components to be assembled in space.

Satcoupling

Summary

What is?Satcoupling is a standardized and scalable modular system of minisats coupled to a service module. Each minisat measures 40x40x40 cm and has a single defined function. Thus one minisat can be devoted to instrumentation, another to propulsion, another to necessary electronics for command, etc. All these are integrated through the cubearm to the service module, which provides them with communication and energy.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Cubearm caths minisats and attached them to the structure. Each minisat can perform a different function.

It can be used in instrumentation, another in propulsion, another in the electronics necessary for command, etc.

This model could be used in future non-geostationary satellite constellations, a new idea that is under development.

How We Developed This Project

Minisats have experienced a great boom in recent years allowing new nations to access space. However, until today the reduced scientific carrying capacity has been their main limitation. That´s why through our satcoupling system we can free the nanosatellites to carry with them different systems that they have in common, thus simplifying their design and increasing their load capacity. This results in a scalable system that allows more complex missions based on minisatellites and the possibility of acquiring the necessary knowledge for larger modular systems in the future.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We use data from new technologies to innovate in the project, we inquire about space technology to project an autonomous object that can be assembled in space
