Putting the 'Art' in Artemis

Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity's road to Mars. Your art may be in any form, including (but not limited to): drawing, painting, sculpture, computer generated 2D or 3D, music, film, music video, written or spoken word, dance, and textile.

DeepArtemis

Summary

DeepArtemis is a project which brings classic and modern together. It uses DeepArt to transfer the style of a well-known painting to a photograph related to space missions. By this technique, it makes a static photograph more dynamic and attractive. After this process, a piece is cut out from the generated image, and the original piece is inserted into the place of the missing part. The aim of this action is to create an intertwined piece of art, which enables people to engage with Artemis project through the painting they are already familiar with. Last but not least, in order to create an informative poster, a brief text related to the mission is added.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We wanted to create awareness about Artemis Space Mission with the help of art pieces. It is very important because, since the Artemis mission will be "one more giant leap for mankind", we wanted to present an introductory and interesting narrative in order to facilitate access to information and to benefit from art for this. DeepArtemis explains the Artemis mission and detailed information on the mission with creative visuals of the topics mentioned. In this way, our innovative result aims to reach and inspire everyone from 7 to 70.

How We Developed This Project

We got our inspiration from the Artemis Mission itself. We wanted to create a piece of art worthy of presenting this great event. We desired to reach as many people as we can with the help of art.

We used deepart.io for this purpose. We tried hundreds of different paintings with different photographs to achieve the best outputs. It was hard to find the perfect match, but the final images worth it.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We collected HD photographs which are about the Artemis mission. The photographs include SLS rockets, xEMU space suit, spacecraft, moon lander, astronauts and Kennedy Space Center which will use in the mission. They are from NASA Images or another platforms. We meet them with deep learning algorithms via DeepArt.

They are listed below.

2) https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/artist-concept-of-an-astronaut-in-the-xemu-space-suit/ (xEMU Space Suit)

Data & Resources

Our main tool was deepart.io. We used DeepArt to generate all our raw images from original photograph and style image.

We used PicsArt Photo Studio to combine the images and add the texts. Final posters were done in this app.
