Putting the 'Art' in Artemis

Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity's road to Mars. Your art may be in any form, including (but not limited to): drawing, painting, sculpture, computer generated 2D or 3D, music, film, music video, written or spoken word, dance, and textile.

Mangal Yatra

Summary

Our project 'Mangal Yatra' showcases the journey of human from Earth to Mars. In this visualization, we imagined the first person on Mars to be Nepalese. We launched from the background of Mount Everest on 26th Sept 2024. Our journey from Earth took 9 months to reach the surface of Mars following the Hohmann's orbit. We had a rocket with two powerful solid boosters that escaped our astronauts from the gravity of Earth. And after the first stage and second stage separation, the capsule travelled whole way alone with our astronaut to its long way journey to the roads of Mars. They were the first to touch the Martian surface.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We developed a video to inspire humanity's road to Mars. It is important to inform about how technology has advanced the way we are learning things by reaching beyond humans have ever been. It puts insight on the curiosity of human to always explore more than they have ever known. It tells the story of development of humans from wondering about stars, to reaching them. We hope to enable the richer understanding of exploring red planet.

How We Developed This Project

NASA's Artemis program to land humans on the surface of Mars inspired our team to create a story and convey it through video about humanity's road to Mars.

We used Blenderto create 3D animations, modify 3D objects and render portions of our video. And usedAdobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro to create animation for Hohmann's orbit, get required portion of videos from the NASA resources, add audio, combine resources and make our complete video. FL Studio was also used to make piano music plotting graph.

We tackled with the problems of longer rendering time and properly managing the textures in our 3D objects and the complexities in rigging for the walk on Martian soil. And finally tackling all those challenges we came up with our final video and story to inspire the journey to the red planet.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

In our project all the data we have used (except what we create ourselves) is totally from the resources provided by NASA in the resources section of "Putting The 'Art' in Artemis" in Category "Create" of Space Apps Challenge.

3D models were used to create animation and rendered portion of videos and to have modified 3D models. Images were used to make animation and put textures, Videos were used to put in some portions of our project directly. Audio files were used for background music and atmospheric data to create piano music.
