Putting the 'Art' in Artemis

Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity's road to Mars. Your art may be in any form, including (but not limited to): drawing, painting, sculpture, computer generated 2D or 3D, music, film, music video, written or spoken word, dance, and textile.

MARSA'24

Summary

MARSA’24 is a visual and artistic project consists of computer generated 2D manipulation poster that visualize the data of Mars and the road to the moon published by NASA, CSA, CNES, JAXA, and ESA. The purpose of the poster is to describe an imagination of NASA's Artemis program through out a scene of the astronauts’ road to the moon and their discoveries in the past few years leading them to discover Mars. Also, we used NASA’s data in the poster to inform humanity about the main tools that the astronauts need in their roads to the space like: Exploration Ground System, Space Launch system, Orion, The Suits and The Gateway. Which are improving and important to lead us to Mars.

How We Addressed This Challenge

What we developed:

The MARSA'24 project addresses this challenge by turning information and data into art which is the challenge main purpose. We designed the poster and choose the manipulation process as it was the best process to present the art of Artemis program using the real images from NASA resources.

Why it's important:

It's important to inform people about NASA's Artemis Program. Artemis is a great step through exploring the outer space. this poster can inform the people about the idea and the aim of this program in just one sight.

What does it do?

This poster has 2 parts, the first part is the artistic design which is created using NASA's imagery resources and the main logo of Artemis. the second part is the main poster which is provided by data and information about Artemis program and the main tools used in the road to the moon.

You can view the whole presentation of the poster (For better quality and explanation of the steps):Here

Main Aim:

We hope that this poster reaches as much people as possible to inform them about Artemis, provide them with information they need and clear any misconceptions.

How We Developed This Project

This challenge inspired our team as we're all graphic designers and had a great experience in this field so, we decided to choose this challenge as it's about turning data and information into art which is actually the main target of any graphic designer.

This project is developed in the following steps:

1.Searching for inspiration.

Which is done by searching in NASA's imagery resources and other creative platforms like Behance.com.

2.Sketching the idea.

We have made a sketch from our inspiration to address the idea before starting the actual work in designing.

3.Collecting the elements:

After sketching and finding our inspiration, we started searching again to download the elements and images that we will need to make this poster. (This process can last until we finish the whole design)

4.Choosing color pallet:

The two main colors in this design were: blue and orange which are Complementary Colors. Complementary Colors are especially pleasing to the eye.

5.Manipulation process:

This process is done by merging all the elements together in a harmonic way to create the whole scene by adjusting the lightning, contrast and colors of each element. Also, adjusting the shadow and highlights for each element to be realistic.

6.Typing data and information:

After finishing the design we've typed the collected data and information about the main tools in the road to moon.

7.Export and Publish:

After finishing the whole work the design is exported in JPG format and published through an inspiring presentation on Behance.com.

Everything used to create this project:

Hardware:

hp laptop pavilion

HUION 1060plus

Software:

Adobe photoshop cc 2020

Camtasia studio 8.5 version

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used NASA and its partner agencies for Space Apps 2020 a lot in creating this project as the main idea of the project is to describe the Artemis program in an artistic way. And NASA's imagery resources were the best to be used and inspired in the project. Also, they provide us with the real data that we needed to make the poster as realistic as possible. So, most of the elements used in this manipulation poster are actually parts of real images from NASA's imager resources.
