Putting the 'Art' in Artemis

Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity's road to Mars. Your art may be in any form, including (but not limited to): drawing, painting, sculpture, computer generated 2D or 3D, music, film, music video, written or spoken word, dance, and textile.

ARTEMIS PROGRAM in MINECRAFT

Summary

“Dealing with science is difficult. Dealing with science is not enjoyable." Team Apollo, as a creative team with different backgrounds, aims to instill the love and curiosity of science and space in people from an early age. Team Apollo, which has aimed to destroy the usual perceptions of society, prepared to disperse conspiracies based on science. We stuck Artemis' arrow into prejudices! By describing the Artemis project through a game, we wanted to appeal to people of all ages. We tried to convey that science is not just about formulas, that we can enjoy every field of science that we are interested in, as long as we do not lose our imagination and faith.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We designed a project, for the challenge “Put Art in Artemis”. In 2024 the first woman and the next man will land the moon. The date is not certain. In this project, it is important to be creative and innovative so we used an unusual type of introducing the video game.

We developed a virtual copy of the Artemis project in Minecraft. The people who visit the server of Minecraft will be able to see different types of areas. We created a short movie that includes a guided map with voice added and a brief story themed a new beginning for humanity. We took an innovative approach by moving away from ordinary methods by which we could introduce a project.

In line with the first female theme in the Artemis project, we designated our Minecraft character as the Greek goddess Artemis. We didn’t use only Greek mythology but astronomical icons and skins in the game. We used the Greek goddess fıgures who lived in the past, into the future with the Minecraft game. We created our own "Unıverse" by designing the maps we wanted.

In the game, we have designed Artemis herself, using Minecraft which can be found easier than most 3D software. Being an accessible game that appeals to people of all ages, it is a source of inspiration, especially for children and teenagers.

How We Developed This Project

We are impressed that the person to go to the Moon, is the first woman. In the early scenes of our short film, the identity of the astronaut is unknown. In the following scenes, we see that she is Artemis herself. The Greek goddess Artemis is a source of inspiration to women of all ages, and women will see their own reflections on her figure.

We tried to turn our young team formation into an advantage. We were aware that the most beautiful and fun way to reach the crowds today is through the game. Because life is full of challenges and we aim tocreatie fun moments with a little game

 Tools Used:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Minecraft
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Youtube Studio

The problems and achievements our team had:

  • To encourage people to research on this subject by expanding the research horizons.
  • To introduce the Artemis mission with both game and short film.
  • To inform the next generation physicists, astronomers, especially young and people who will make scientific researches about Artemis Space mission.
How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used Nasa's data in our video.
