What Is Our Carbon Footprint?

Your challenge is to identify local sources of carbon emissions and/or estimate amounts of carbon emissions for different human activities to aid scientists in mapping carbon sources and sinks. How can you inform decisions to adapt to the consequences of a changing world and aid policy makers in making plans for the future?

Summary

NearbyFarms will allow people to consume seasonal and local food that is grown on surrounding farms.It will also also help in reducing the food waste along the supply chain and carbon emissions by shortening the path food travels from the farmer’s field to the dinner plate. At the same time, it will help farmers because usually large corporates buy products in bulk from the farmers at minimum support price. The app will help the farmers gain larger profit margin by selling the food directly to consumers.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Nearby Farms allows you to search for the farmers and their farming land in your locality. When you find a farmer who offers your desired product, you can talk to an automated chat robot to ask for other specifications. Once you are done, the chat robot will notify the farmer about your purchase. Then you can either walk or bike to pick your order. You can also make a list of favorite farmers for the next purchases.


Local farmers are more accountable to their local communities, so you can expect safe and super quality goods. In the process, you also build a relationship with the person who provides your food.


During the development, we came across with different resources on this matter. Our belief has become stronger that this app will not only help the farmers but also the consumers with their health and also the local economy in countries like India and Nepal. We are confident that this app will fill the gaps between the farmers and consumers and leave behind a positive impact on the environment. 


Shopping with the help of chatbot is pretty unique and this gives the possibility for the people in the rural areas who are unfamiliar with online shopping, an opportunity to talk to the chatbot and order. For that, the chatbot can be integrated with the voice command in regional languages.

How We Developed This Project

We built this application with Flutter to develop cross platform that is Android and iOS application, Dialogflow to create a chatbot for customer communication ( with Telegram integration), Google Maps to spot and locate the farmers and Firestore as the database back-end. We have also used iMovie for the purpose of editing this video.


One of the biggest issues was integrating Dialogflow with flutter as the default response was not getting overridden by our fulfilment handler. We also couldn't get the images without integrating our chatbot with some other framework. 

So, we used Telegram to fix that issue.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

In this application, we are using user's geographical data and with the help of google maps we are pin pointing the location of farmers. This is done to farmer customer relationship aided by a chatbot by Dialogflow tool.
