What Is Our Carbon Footprint?

Your challenge is to identify local sources of carbon emissions and/or estimate amounts of carbon emissions for different human activities to aid scientists in mapping carbon sources and sinks. How can you inform decisions to adapt to the consequences of a changing world and aid policy makers in making plans for the future?

Carbon footprint

Summary

This project aims to explore the carbon footprint of the heavily industrialized local zone; Aliaga in order to detect the deteriation of the climate, the increase of the average annual heat and thus a decrease of rainfall causing local agricultural products to be poisoned. Moreover, this project aims to reveal the increased cancer cases due to air pollution. the main purpose however is to identify and compare the effects of iron and steel plant companies on the environment and how the pollution rates and the carbon emissions have changed.

How We Addressed This Challenge

In this project we developed a desktop software by visualizing it in a user friendly way about the main aims to raise awareness for citizens, local people and to get the attention of the politicians.

It works by using the data from Nasa sources via the internet.

How We Developed This Project

We chose this challenge because we are affected negatively by the heavy industrial zone because of air pollution.

How We Used Space Agency Data in This Project

İn order to analyze the data, we used the Mat Lab and as a result of our collaboration with the mentors, we downloaded the data from the Japan data source in XML format and exported it by the aid of Python programming language and finally used the pyqt5 and pyqtGrapgh libraries to visualize and to design a user friendly interface. Also, to raise awareness we have also created a mobile application by app inventor
