What Is Our Carbon Footprint?

Your challenge is to identify local sources of carbon emissions and/or estimate amounts of carbon emissions for different human activities to aid scientists in mapping carbon sources and sinks. How can you inform decisions to adapt to the consequences of a changing world and aid policy makers in making plans for the future?

Heroes of Earth

Summary

Our game will assist the user to find out how much carbon he emits by his daily activities & tools he used. It will help him to figure out how he can reduce carbon emission by completing various goals in his daily life, thus change his lifestyle to reduce carbon emission. At the same time, our game will also work as a medium for survey on the people’s activities and lifestyle affecting the Carbon Footprint. We’ll store these mass user data on our server. By analyzing and using appropriate attributes, we’ll create a dataset that can be used for research purposes and make it free for scientists and researchers to analyze and researchers to analyze the human lifestyle for mapping carbon sources

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our game Heroes of Earth will assist the user to find out how he/she contributes to carbon emission, what activities and tools he uses that emits carbon and in what amount. It will help him to figure out how he can reduce the amount of carbon emission in his daily activities. It will set him various goals in his day to day life and assist him to complete them, thus change his lifestyle to reduce the carbon emission.

At the same time, our game will also work as a medium for survey on the people’s activities and lifestyle affecting the Carbon Footprint. We’ll store these mass user data (excluding all personal data) in our server. By analyzing and using appropriate attributes, we’ll create a dataset that can be used for research purposes and make it free for everyone. We believe this dataset will be helpful for scientists and researchers to analyze the human lifestyle for mapping carbon sources and sinks.

How We Developed This Project

Inspiration: Because of increasing environment pollution around the world, we come out with this solution to reduce carbon food-print.

Technologies

1.   Mobile App: To assist the user to analyze his daily activities, personal habits, household appliances and fulfill his daily goals.

2.   Machine Learning: To predict the amount of carbon emission by the user’s daily activities and to suggest him possible solutions.

3.   Server Technologies: To store and analyze the data from the user’s daily activities.

Mobile App Features

In this game, user will find his daily activities those contribute in the Carbon Footprint and see his daily tasks/goals to be done. Based on this he’ll have the chance to estimate the relative size of his carbon footprint as well as change his lifestyle to reduce it. There will be mainly four modules-

1.   User Profile: Here user will see his experience level based on his current and future activities.

2.   Daily Task: Here user will find his daily task based on his current experience level and daily activities. The task will be based on four major areas such as-

1.   Housing and household energy use,

2.   Transportation,

3.   Personal habits,

4.   Re-using and Recycling.

3.   User failure report: This will show details about user’s incomplete tasks and suggest useful tips and tricks.

4.   User Progress: A graphical environmental representation of user’s progress such as environment and atmosphere will change based on user’s activities.

Coding Language: Java.

App Platform: Android.

Prototyping Tool: Adobe XD.
